Account book with records of loans and interest to be paid, including loans made to the State of Maryland and to the United States during the Revolution; rents received for homes, farms, and slaves; Sprigg's account with his son-in-law John Francis Mercer; and sales of livestock (including one colt for which Sprigg received 7000 chestnut fence rails). As well, there are a few other miscellaneous charges, such as for lumber, bricks, and building a boat. Three loose papers were laid into the volume.

Richard Sprigg (1739-1798) was a wealthy planter whose home, "Strawberry Hill," was located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Sprigg and his wife Margaret Caile had at least five daughters: Sophia, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Henrietta, and Margaret. Sophia (1766-1812) married John Francis Mercer (1759-1821), a Revolutionary War hero, a U.S. Congressman, and governor of Maryland.
